sharing a pithy comment from our Cousin Gus (He's a young headstrong terrier... a good dog, kinda slow but he don't steal....)

Deah Colonel Sam & Miss Lulu-I heah you guys hit the rud this a.m.and I want to wish you a doggone good time - just don't forget yaw Maine roots as you flea to state, ok? Yap, that's right - you'll probably come across some crazy sights along the way (Sammy, those southern belles might catch your eye, they can be quite fetching) but don't roll over and be taken in. You just let them know they're barking up the wrong mini-van! I know it might tick them off - but home is home and cousins is cousins. Gotta go, I got seagulls to scare, whawf cats to chase and rotten bait to chew on. Write soon. Luv - Cousins Gussy

note from Lulu: Gus, send us a picture for the dogblog please.

This may show up twice but here goes. On your way down rt.81 take a detour on route 6 west (near Scranton) and head to Wellsboro. Stay overnight in Canyon country and visit the PA version of the the grand canyon - otherwise known as the Pine Creek Gourge. After seeing the head of the canyon you can head south on route 287 to Williamsport and then I180 to route 80 East back to 81. It will be one of the prettiest drives on your route south. My grandfather Boatman was part of a CCC crew that constructed the overlooks and trails on the canyon rim back in the 20's and 30's and my grandfather Marshal was engineer of the Pennsy RR train traveling the canyon route from the yards in Jersey Shore to Elmira NY back in the 30's and 40's. The Boatman line began in this country in a little community called English Center (on Route 287) and this ancester is buried on an Island in Pine Creek west of English Center near Waterville PA. Fun.
Blessings in your Travels.
